HEBRON – One of Northern Kentucky’s largest middle schools has hired a new principal. Jamie Brewer, assistant principal at Conner Middle, will take over the school’s top job on July 1. Brewer, 33, was hired Monday by the school’s site-based council. He will replace Linda Viox, who is retiring after 10 years as principal. “We have a very strong staff and it’s one of the top schools in the region,” Brewer said. “I just want to continue to lead a school that has been a success all of these years.” Brewer is a 1993 graduate of Simon Kenton High School. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Kentucky University, and Rank 1 certification from NKU and the University of Kentucky. His first job in education was at Hinsdale Elementary in Edgewood, where he taught physical education and health. He’s been assistant principal at Conner since 2001. Viox said she’s worked hard over the years at exposing Brewer to everything a principal does, with the thought that he might take over for her one day. “A few years after he came here, I pretty well knew that he wanted to be here a long time,” Viox said. She said Brewer already had a good handle on curriculum, but there were other aspects to the job, such as financial issues, that she taught him over the years. “I’ve been priming him for this,” Viox said. “I have all the confidence in the world at this point that he’ll do a very good job.” Conner, one of five middle schools in the Boone County School District, has roughly 930 students in grades 6-8.
