INDEPENDENCE - A 16-year-old Simon Kenton High School student was injured when was hit by a car while walking to school this morning.
The girl and her brother were crossing Madison Pike in front of the school about 7:25 a.m. when the girl walked into the side of a passing car, said Independence Police spokesman Capt. Tony Lucas.
The girl's brother saw the car and stopped before he was hit, Lucas said. The siblings were crossing the new four-lane Madison Pike about 600 feet from a crosswalk.
The driver of the car was not speeding and will not be charged, said Lucas. The girl was taken to Children's Hospital Medical Center to be treated for a possible broken leg and arm.
The injured student's name was not released Tuesday morning.
