The former Utotem/Circle K/MPG gas station is now open.It is a Marathon Kwik Trip They've been selling gas 20 cents cheaper around 4-6pm everyday. I was the one a couple years ago that started a thread in disgust about how the owners picked that property up for nearly nothing and can literally avoid a tax burden playing the family chain game. Even though I'm still upset at the situation, it hasn't kept me from patronizing the store and it's because of one thing; convenience. For some reason it's nice to go to a "small" store that doesn't have 20 people in it at all times. It's close, and the product is limited but priced right. I don't know the guy's name that is now running it but he actually speaks really good fluent english. Knowing the status of the true "heart" of independence being a ghost town literally since everything moved south to Kroger's, it's nice to see that gas station open back up and at least provide something more than an abandoned building left to sit unattended, collecting the remnants/articles of a once-was establishment. It's open 5am-12 midnight 7 days a week with the exception of sundays opening an hour later in the mornings. I have some really good memories of that store growing up, spending my college fund on Tron and Dig-Dug arcade games. Never made it to college but my ebay store selling Tapioca pudding in 4,978 flavors is sending me to the top of the world in the wage earning bracket.
